I have always loved decorating. I remember as a child painting my bedroom cream to match the rose patterned wallpaper and dubious dusky pink carpet all to the sound of Bohemian Rhapsody on my record player. Even then I adored the smell of the paint and that overwhelming sense of satisfaction at creating a new and exciting space. It's been the same with all the places I have lived in and I've gradually developed a passion not just in colour but also in lighting, texture, mood and how they affect the way we feel every minute of the day. But it's sometimes been a struggle to get it right - I could have painted half of Bristol with all those test pots - and I've often been disappointed with the results.
But the feeling when you finally get it right! I used to have a duck egg bedroom, the easterly light would filter through the pale blue curtains and bounce off the beige walls to create a cold unwelcoming start to the day. An update to warm grey with accents of orange and coral pink and now it's a cosy haven.
I use colour in my work all the time - my greeting cards and coasters are a celebration of colour in nature. But I want to explore colour in our homes as well, how to put colours together and combinations that make us relax, concentrate or leap for joy.
So this blog is a little self indulgent. A way to explore everything new (and old) in interiors, review shops, ranges, colours and start to understand what really makes a good interior. I will be interviewing the experts, finding out how to make easy items for the home and unearth some decorating tips. I'm hoping that this journey will leave me knowing that my house sings with colour, comfort and personality and that I have been able to pass on some colourful gems of information to anyone who shares this passion.
